Welcome to the West Virginia Leaders of Literacy: Campaign for Grade-Level Reading County Team Conference. The Campaign is a statewide collaborative effort to ensure that more children succeed in school and graduate prepared for college, a career, and active citizenship. The Campaign focuses on an important predictor of school success and high school graduation—grade level reading by the end of third grade. Although schools must be accountable for helping all children achieve, providing effective teaching for all children in every classroom every day, the Campaign is based on the belief that schools cannot succeed alone. Engaged communities that are mobilized to remove barriers, expand opportunities, and assist parents in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities to serve as full partners in the success of their children, are needed to assure student success. The work is about supporting communities and families in the four focus areas of school readiness, attendance, high quality instruction, and extended learning. This meeting is organized to provide you with practical, hands-on experiences so you can return home with relevant, actionable plans to improve your education efforts. Speakers will present topics which have real-world application for educators and will help all of us address the challenges in providing our students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful.
